Temptation — It’s Everywhere. Reclaim Your Power!
Does anyone else wrestle with the Halloween bucket of candy sitting on the counter? I decided to label it this year for what it is – TEMPTATION. But here’s the thing, life is filled with temptation and we must find the power to resist it. Here are just a few things that came to mine as I considered what I was tempted on over the weekend …..
- Organize my office or binge on Netflix series?
- Church or sleep in?
- Take the dog for a walk or read my book?
- Work on a project or surf the internet?
- Broccoli or Almond Joy
You get the point….
In each of my micro-moment decisions, I made a choice on what I would do or where I would spend my time. We all have them and generally, we know the right thing to do, so why don’t we do it? Temptation.
Our lives – our days – our moments are filled with temptation so let’s label it and get on with it. It will always be there. It will always be the small voice rationalizing why it is “better” or “okay” for us to be unproductive, unhealthy, unmotivated.
Yet it is in those tiny moment-by-moment decisions where we can reclaim our power. We can decide what is better for us. AND ACT. Don’t overthink it – just do it.
Mel Robins wrote a book called the 5 Second Rule. She describes the 5 seconds as the time between what you know is right and the time it takes for your brain to talk you out of it. Her point is the same – push yourself to act before you allow temptation to win.
Overcoming temptation is important because:
- It creates positive momentum
- It builds your self-confidence
- It gets stuff done
- It makes you feel better
- It breeds success
So this week – Reclaim Your Power. Label temptation for whatever it may be in your life then overcome it. Even in small ways. Notice the victories and how they make you feel. Keep going and create positive momentum for your life.
Have a great week!
