How we show up in the world!

How We Show Up in the World

In addition to being a travel enthusiast, I’m a certified professional coach, educator, and military veteran. I’ve traveled to 32 countries and sailed on 12 cruises (so far), and my favorite destination is wherever I’m headed next!

Being on travel reminds me of the importance of showing up. And we get to choose how we show up in the world every single day. It’s not just the big trips or major moments that matter. Sometimes, it’s the simple things that stay with us the most. So, how are we choosing to show up for ourselves, and others?

  • Are we choosing to embrace who we are instead of the person we may think everyone wants us to be?
  • Are we able to admit we don’t know something instead of nodding along or pretending we have it all figured out?
  • What does it mean and how does it feel to be truly “authentic”?

We can seek out moments of joy and cultivate a sense of curiosity, instead of judgment. We can bring our positive energy and create opportunities for connection. And we can also bring hope and compassion in our interactions. Now, this isn’t about false motivation or being “fake nice.” Instead, it’s about being real and being willing to be “perfectly imperfect.” Our honesty is an invitation to others that they can feel safe to be honest, too.  A powerful reminder that we’re not alone in this messy, beautiful human experience…

As the saying goes, you don’t know what others may be going through, and this response by author Vex King to the question, “Why is it important to be kind?” captures the importance of kindness:

“Because we walk past hundreds of people every day, and none of the wear signs that say, ‘I’m grieving,’ ‘I’m exhausted,’ or ‘I’m barely holding it together.’ But they’re everywhere. Kindness might be the only softness they receive today.”

You may never know who needed your patience, your smile, or your gentle words. Our actions don’t have to be grand gestures; it can be something simple, like offering an unexpected compliment or sharing something you’re excited about. Maybe it’s just being present with someone who needs it. And even if it’s not reciprocated or feels unnoticed, your good energy makes each day a little brighter.

The world needs your real self, your unique perspective, and your willingness to find brightness in ordinary moments. Start small, be consistent, and watch how choosing to show up authentically transforms not just your day but also creates ripples of connection and joy that reach further than you’ll ever know! What’s one authentic moment you can create today?

Let’s keep showing up with love and kindness. Let’s find moments of joy for ourselves and those around us in this journey of life.
